Old Town summer events created in response to gas works look set to be a big success

Thousands turned out on Sunday 3rd August for the first of the new Old Town Gasworks Sunday Socials, a series of community street events created to support local businesses during major gasworks affecting Old Town.

With the road closed to traffic for the works, the Old Town Business Association launched the Sunday Socials programme to bring footfall and energy back to Old Town. The first event drew over 3,500 people across Wood Street and Devizes Road, with families enjoying music, market stalls, food vendors and great entertainment from The Bubble Master and Party Peeps.

“This programme was built in direct response to the disruption of the roadworks, and I’m incredibly proud of how Old Town came alive,” said Kris Talikowski, Chair of the Old Town Business Association. “It’s proof that the right events, in the right places, can transform a challenge into a positive moment for the community.”

The events are headline sponsored by Wales & West Utilities, who are currently delivering essential upgrades to the gas network.

Ross Gregory, External Affairs Manager for Wales & West Utilities, added:

“We’re delighted to see these events being embraced so positively. Supporting local communities during our work is a key priority, and we’re proud to be backing something that brings real benefit to traders and residents alike.”

The Sunday Socials continue with Beer & Country on 17th August and the Street Foods Festival on 31st August.
