Swindon’s first ever
’Day of the Dead’ Festival
“Día de los Muertos”
Sunday 2 November 2025 | 2-7pm
Wood Street, Old Town Swindon
The streets of Old Town will come alive this autumn with the first Day of the Dead Festival, a community event inspired by the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos.
The festival will feature live music, authentic food, art installations and family activities, creating a vibrant atmosphere while paying respect to the roots of this important cultural celebration. Visitors can expect colourful decorations, traditional crafts, and opportunities to learn more about the history and meaning of Day of the Dead.
Visitors are encouraged to take part in the celebrations by bringing a photo of a loved one to add to the community ofrenda, dressing in smart clothes with traditional skull-inspired face paint, and bringing a battery-powered candle to light up the streets as part of the evening parade.
Highlights will include:
A public ofrenda (altar) where families can place photos or mementoes of loved ones.
Authentic Latin American food alongside Old Town favourites.
Live performances and street entertainment throughout the afternoon.
Face painting and craft workshops for children.
A street parade of colour and light to close the day.
The event is being run by the Old Town Business Association, working with cultural partners to ensure the celebration is delivered with respect and authenticity.
Entry is a suggested £1.50 donation, and you can book a ticket here.
We would like to ask for help to fund our events. For this brand new festival we are asking for a donation per person to help cover the costs.
